Dr. Rony David Raj – Biography

Early Life & Education

Dr. Rony David Raj hails from Thrissur, Kerala, into a family with strong roots in cinema. His father, C. T. Rajan, produced the classic film Mahayanam (1989), while his brother Roby Varghese Raj is a cinematographer and filmmaker. Though drawn to the arts from a young age—actively performing in youth festivals, stage plays, and cultural events—Rony chose academics first. He pursued medicine, completing his MBBS from Vinayaka Missions, Salem

Medical Career

After graduation, he worked as a doctor at KIMS Hospital, Ernakulam and various hospitals in Cochin. Even while practicing medicine, he nurtured a passion for cinema and acting, balancing both professions for several years before transitioning more actively into films.

Entry into Cinema

Rony’s official film journey began in the late 2000s with small but impactful roles. His big breakthrough came in 2016 with Aanandam, where he played Chacko Sir. His natural humor and timing made the character stand out and won him a nomination at SIIMA for Best Comedian.

Career as an Actor

Over the years, Rony built a strong portfolio in Malayalam cinema, known for polished supporting roles and performances that blend intensity with realism. His role as Aji Peter in Unda (2019) was so authentic that many thought he was an actual police officer. He later appeared in films like:

Apart from co-writing the script, he acted as CPO Jayakumar P. Vasu. The film turned into one of the biggest Malayalam hits of the year, grossing over ?80 crore.

This success was personally significant as well—the film helped restore the cinematic legacy of his father, whose earlier production Mahayanam had been a commercial failure decades earlier.
