Joy Mathew is an actor, playwright, director and political activist. A journalist by profession, Joy Mathew moulded himself into Director and Actor on his ways with experience and imagination. Though the line had villain tone, he succeeded in depicting some Power-pact perfomances in the Malayalam film Industry which gained much of publice support.
Personal Life:
Joy is born to P.V.Mathew & Esther on 30 December 1951.He is married to Saritha who works as sales head in Electronics Company Dubai. The couple have three children Mathew, Ann and Thanya. Joy Mathew was born into an aristocratic Christian Family of Challissery. He grew up in Kozhikode contemplating theatre as his vocation.
His childhood, and active involvements in left wing politics are inextricable from the way he makes films.The influence of Left Wing in his ideology and attitude moulds his character and we can see the anticipation of the same throughout his life. Above all this he is an optimist and a philanthropist by nature. Joy Mathew is obsessed with films and theatre.
Aspiring a career in films, he went to Pune to join the prestigious Pune Film Institute, but dropped that idea and decided to pursue a post graduation in Journalism and Mass Media at K C College, Mumbai,Still holding on to films which had always been his passion.
Joy Mathew says with pride that he has been inspired by the lives of great personalities he has interviewed, like Playwright and Nobel Laureate Dario Foe , Theatre Activist Habeeb Thanveer, Late Artist and Painter M. F . Hussain , Oscar award winner and Sound Engineer Rasool Pookutty and many more to his credit.
After ten long years of introspection, It is this year that Joy's dream project 'SHUTTER', his maiden venture to celluloid blooms on the silver screen. Developing a number of moving projects to his credit. Actor-director Joy Mathew has delivered power-packed performance in movies like Amen and Annayum Rasoolum.
Apart from the real life, Joy Mathew is always seen in big screens as a strict father. Joy plays a strict father to Vinay Forrt, while in 1983, he acted the role of Nivin Pauly's father. In newcomer Aadi's Pranayakatha, Joy played father to an aggressive son, played by anchor-turned-actor Govindankutty. To the latest, in Sameer Thahir's Neelakasham Pacha Kadal Chuvanna Bhoomi, Joy again played a father's role — this time, to young heart throb Dulquer Salmaan.

Mr.Joy Mathew was actively engaged in various socio-cultural and charitable activities during his college days. He has published a number of periodicals.

He has written more than 20 plays in Malayalam including Athirthikkal (1989), Sankadal (1996), Pretoria – Oct 18 (1996) and Chille 73 (1997). He was honoured by India’s Sahitya Academy and Sangeetha Nataka Academy for two of his plays in 1995 and 1996. Joy Mathew is best known for playing the lead role in John Abraham's 1986 film Amma Ariyan which was voted one of the Top 10 Indian films by British Film Institute. SHUTTER is his first film. Shutter had its Indian premiere at the 17th International Film Festival of Kerala and international premiere at the 9th Dubai International Film Festival. It won the Silver Crow Pheasant Award for Best Feature Film (Audience Prize) at the 17th International Film Festival of Kerala.
He has written more than 20 plays in Malayalam including Athirthikkal (1989), Sankadal (1996), Pretoria – Oct 18 (1996) and Chille 73 (1997). He was honoured by Kerala Sahitya Academy and Sangeeta Nataka Academy for two of his plays in 1995 and 1996.[4] He won the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award for the play Madhya Dharanazhi (1996). Recently, its heard that he is also turning into a lyricist. Lets assume that Joy Mathew conquers the greater heights of Malayalam Film Industry in the roles of Director, Actor, Lyricist and much more.
