There were different types of reviews for the Maniratnam movie 'Okay Kanmani' from various corners. Some say it was just okay, some says it was awesome. Some praised Dulquer Salmaan for his brilliant acting, some said he was just above average. But it was interesting that all of them had the same opinion on Nithya's charming performance as 'Tara'. She smiles with her eyes. Her mere appearance on the screen brings energy and it always impresses the audiences.
As per Nithya, it was a coincidence for her to become an actress. Actually, after completing her degree in Journalism, Nithya was planning to enter into the industry as a filmmaker, when she met Nandini Reddy, who motivated her to be an actress. Later she appeared in a movie directed by Nandini in Telugu 'Ala Modalaindi', which became a blockbuster.
Nithya started her movie career as a child artist in Hanuman and Choti Ma – Ek Anokha Bandhan. But, she appeared as a lead actress in K P Kumaran's 'Akashagopuram'. 'Akashagopuram' got released in 2008 and she shared the screen with Mohanlal in this movie. Nithya had a bubbly look as 'Hilda Varghese' in this movie. Her other movie with Mohanlal, 'Angel John' got released very next year itself. In this movie, she paired with Shanthanoo Bhagyaraj. In 2009, she became part of another movie 'Vellathooval', which was not well received in the box office.
The real performer in Nithya was taken out by Anjali Menon, in her movie 'Happy Journey'. 'Happy Journey' was a segment of the anthology movie 'Kerala Cafe', which got released in 2009. Her combination scenes with Jagathy Sreekumar made the audience burst into laughter. With 'Happy Journey', the movie lovers began to notice the actress Nithya.
In the beginning of her career, Nithya was always approached with bubbly roles. Her roles in the Malayalam movies Apporvaragam and Anwar and Telugu movie 'Ala Modalaindi' were of similar types. But these similarities didn't affect her career as she always brought freshness in her acting. Her role as 'Nancy' in 'Apporvaragam' made her the darling of the Malayalam movie industry. Her outstanding performance as a college girl being cheated by her lover was memorable.
The 2011 released 'Urumi' was a milestone in the career of Nithya. She had a tremendous change in her appearance from the bubbly figure to a princess look. In 'Urumi', she gave life to Chirakkal Bala, the princess character. Her song 'Chimmi Chimmi' along with Prabhu Deva was well noticed. The same year, she was being part of Malayalam movies like Violin and Makaramanju and Tamil movies like Veppam and Nootrenbedhu.
Nithya's association with Anjali Menon has created magic in the theatres. From 'Happy Journey' to recently released 'Bangalore Days' are examples for this. Her second film with Anjali was 'Usthad Hotel'. Anjali was the scriptwriter of Ustad Hotel, which was directed by Anwar Rasheed. Her chemistry with Dulquer Salmaan worked well in this movie. Her character 'Shahana' was cute and charming. The song 'Appangal Embaadum' hit the chart list with her vibrant performance. But this success didn't repeat in her other movies of 2012. The movies like Thatsamayam Oru Penkutty, Karmayogi, Bachelor Party, Poppins, etc were box office failures. But the song she has sung in the movie 'Poppins' was well acclaimed.
After the VKP movie 'Poppins', Nithya stood away from the Malayalam movie industry for a year. But she was busy with her Telugu and Kannada projects. In 2014, again, she appeared in an Anjali Menon movie 'Bangalore Days'. It was her will to be part of good movies, which made Nithya accept the role of 'Natasha', a supporting character in 'Bangalore Days'. But 'Natasha' was safe in Nithya's hands. Bangalore Days was one of the blockbuster movies of 2014, which saw Fahadh Faasil, Dulquer Salmaan, Nivin Pauly, Nazriya Nazeem, Isha Talwar and Parvathy on lead.
Every artist will have a peak time in their career. The year 2015 is somewhat a peak time of Nithya's career. She was very much lucky to be part of a Mani Ratnam movie (Okay Kanmani), which every actor long for. Also, she was cast in Jenuse Mohamad's movie '100 Days of Love'. In both these movies, she shared the screen with Dulquer Salmaan, the luckiest pair of Nithya. Okay, Kanmani and 100 Days of Love are getting good responses from the theatres.
Nithya Menon is full of life. With her energetic smile and acting, she had already conquered the South Indian movie industry. She brings freshness not only for her acting, but also in the acting of her co-stars. The perfection in her work, even in dialogue presentation, makes her unique in the industry. It was her right choice to be here at the film industry, though she was a Journalism graduate from Manipal University. Lets hope more brilliant performances from this brilliant actress....
