Aranmula Ponnamma (8 April 1914 – 21 February 2011) was an indian actress, in Malayalam Cinema.
Veteran actress and a well-known mother figure in Malayalam films for a long time, Aranmula Ponnamma , 96, died at a private hospital at Trivandrum on 21 February 2011 . She had been in a hospital due to some health problems. She was 96 years old at the time of here death. She had been hospitalized for more than one week time for the bone fracture.
Aranmula Ponnamma entered into Malayalam acting world with her 'Bhagyalakshmi' opposite Augustine Joseph, father of K J Yesudas. Known for her innumerable roles as the mother of the leading character, Ponnamma had played mother to three generations of actors. In 1996, she received the state and national awards for best supporting actress for her role in Adoor Gopalakrishnan's Kathapurushan. She is the only lady artist in Mollywood to get J.C. Daniel Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2006.She is one such actress who had acted with the first, second and third generation actors. Starting her career in 1950, Aranmula Ponnamma has acted in over 500 films. The body will be cremated at Trivandrum on 22 February 2011.
