Kalabhavan Navas (Navas Backer) was found dead in a hotel room in Kochi. He was 51 years old. He had been staying at the hotel in connection with a film shoot. He had returned to his room after the shoot when the incident occurred.
It is suspected that the cause of death was a heart attack. He was active in theatre, television, and cinema. He was also a singer and a mimicry artist. Navas was one of the 38 mimicry artists introduced by director Balukiriyath through the film Mimics Action 500.
He played notable roles in films like Hitler Brothers (1997), Junior Mandrake (1997), Mattupetti Machan (1998), Chandamama (1999), and Thillana Thillana (2003). His wife is Rahana. His father was the film actor Abubacker, and his brother is the well-known comedian Niyas Backer.
He was part of the Kalabhavan mimicry troupe. Later, under the banner of Cochin Arts, he performed several mimicry shows along with his brother Niyas Backer. He made his film debut in 1995 with the feature film Chaitanyam.
