Meghanathan, a prominent Malayalam actor and the third son of veteran actor Balan K Nair, passed away on Thursday at the age of 60. He had been undergoing treatment for a lung-related illness at a private hospital in Kozhikode, where he breathed his last.
The actor’s funeral is scheduled to take place at his residence in Shoranur. Meghanathan is survived by his wife, Susmitha, and daughter, Parvathi.
Meghanathan made his acting debut in the 1983 film Asthram and went on to appear in over 50 films during his three-decade-long career. He was known for his impactful performances in films such as Panchagni, Chamayam, Rajadhani, Bhoomigeetham, Chenkol, Malappuram Haji Mahanaya Joji, Prayikkara Pappan, Udyanapaalakam, Ee Puzhayum Kadannu, and Vaasthavam. Like his father, Meghanathan often portrayed antagonist roles, earning acclaim for his commanding screen presence.
In addition to his film career, Meghanathan was a familiar face in Malayalam television, having acted in popular serials like Sthreetvam, Meghasandesham, Kathayariyathe, Snehanjali, and Chitta. His last film appearance was in Samadhana Pusthakam, released earlier this year.
