Malayalam Actor Mohan Raj Passes Away

Veteran Malayalam actor Mohan Raj, best known for his iconic role as Keerikkadan Jose in the film Kireedam, passed away on Thursday afternoon at his residence in Kanjirankulam, Thiruvananthapuram. The actor was 72. His demise has left the South Indian film industry in mourning, as Mohan Raj was a beloved figure in Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu cinema.

Mohan Raj’s entry into the film world came after he was introduced to director Sibi Malayil while working as an enforcement officer. Standing at an imposing 6 feet 2 inches and weighing over 101 kg, his commanding presence made him the perfect choice for villainous roles. His portrayal of the notorious Keerikkadan Jose in the 1989 Mohanlal-starrer Kireedam became a career-defining performance, making him a household name and establishing him as one of Malayalam cinema's most sought-after antagonists.

Throughout his career, Mohan Raj appeared in more than 300 films across multiple languages, including Telugu, Tamil, and even a few Japanese films. His versatility and intense screen presence helped him carve a niche as one of the most memorable villains in South Indian cinema.

Actor and director Dinesh Paniker shared the news of Mohan Raj’s passing on social media, expressing his deep sorrow. He revealed that the actor passed away around 3 pm at his home, and his cremation is scheduled to take place the following day in Thiruvananthapuram. The announcement has prompted an outpouring of tributes from fellow actors, filmmakers, and fans, all honoring Mohan Raj’s immense contribution to cinema and his unforgettable on-screen legacy.
