Tovino Thomas has expressed his concern about the Justice Hema Committee report, which sheds light on the severe challenges women face in the Malayalam film industry. While acknowledging the importance of the report, Tovino hopes that the audience does not view the entire industry as a hub of wrongdoing.

The Kerala government released the 233-page Justice Hema Committee report on Monday, more than four years after it was submitted to the Chief Minister. The report highlights the discrimination and exploitation faced by women in the industry, causing a significant stir among fans and igniting political debate.

In an exclusive interview with Indianexpress.com, Tovino revealed that he had provided input to the committee regarding the industry's inner workings. He emphasized that the Malayalam film industry, often recognized for its progressive cinema, should not be singled out as the only place where such issues occur.

"Yes, I spoke to the committee. This committee was set up only in the Malayalam industry, which is why we’re focusing on it. However, if a similar committee were established in any other industry or anywhere else in the world, it would become evident that these problems exist there too. It's hurtful when people suggest that these issues are exclusive to the Malayalam film industry because I'm a part of this industry," Tovino stated.

He clarified that while the report reveals some distressing realities, not everyone in the industry is involved. "If someone has committed such terrible acts, whether against a man or a woman, they should be punished accordingly. It's essential not just to punish the wrongdoers but also to create an awareness and education system that ensures a safer workspace for women," he added.
