"‘No One Has Ever Spoken to Me Disrespectfully, Nor Knocked on My Door Inappropriately’: Actress Jomol"

Actress and AMMA executive member Jomol responded to the Hema Committee report, stating that she has never experienced any form of mistreatment in the film industry. "No one has ever spoken to me disrespectfully or knocked on my door inappropriately," Jomol said. "I have been acting in films for many years and have never had a bad experience. No one has ever told me that I could only get opportunities in films if I cooperated in certain ways, as some people suggest," she remarked to the media in response to the Hema Committee report.

She also addressed the claim that a prominent actress was sidelined in the industry. "She is still acting in films. We cannot question the creativity of a director or writer, nor can we interfere in it. If anyone has had such bad experiences and comes forward with a complaint, I will stand by them. The allegations against the Malayalam film industry that have appeared in the media are all I have heard. No one has come forward to me with a complaint," Jomol added.

AMMA General Secretary Siddique also commented on the Hema Committee report, emphasizing that those who have committed wrongdoings in the film industry should be punished. "The police should register cases and investigate those responsible. We should not blame the entire film industry based on a few isolated incidents," Siddique stated while addressing the press conference in which he welcomed the Hema Committee report.

He further expressed his concern over the generalization of the entire Malayalam film industry as being problematic. "It is disheartening to hear people say that everyone in the Malayalam film industry is bad. We oppose that notion. Similar issues exist in other sectors as well. Even when complaints are lodged and investigated by the police in those sectors, there are no broad-brush condemnations of the entire profession. For instance, if a politician is corrupt, we don't say that all politicians are corrupt. The focus should be on identifying and punishing the wrongdoers. It is not appropriate to condemn an entire industry or a group of people that many admire based on knowledge of a few isolated incidents. That is deeply distressing to us," Siddique said.
