meet the star

DULQUER SALMAAN

To get noticed in a multi starred movie is a very difficult task, especially when all the actors in the movie are proven and talented. The audience will also get confused. But, when Anjali Menon’s ‘Bangalore Days’ got released, all the movie lovers in one voice voted for ‘Arjun’, the atypical young man played by Dulquer Salman. Arjun is a person, who always goes against the rule of the society, a carefree one, who doesn’t expects much from his life. He resembles a guy which we have often met in our life and Arjun was safe in Dulquer’s hand…

Being the son of the super star of Malayalam movie industry, the expectations upon Dulquer were beyond words. When his debut movie ‘Second Show’ got released in the year 2012, the movie lovers expected another ‘Mammootty’ on the screen. But, Dulquer was matured enough to built up his own way of acting, pushing aside his identity as a superstar’s son and making his own space in the industry.

The real charm of Dulquer was utilized in the movie ‘Ustad Hotel’ of Director Anwar Rasheed. Fayizi, his character was sweet enough to win the heart of the audience. The movie was a block buster of the year 2012. The movie saw good on-screen chemistry between Dulquer and Nithya Menon. Dulquer was also lucky enough to have combination scenes with the great actor ‘Thilakan’, in this highly acclaimed movie.

There was another release of Dulquer in the same year 2012. It was ‘Theevram’ directed by Roopesh Peethambaram. From the loving character in ‘Ustad Hotel’, Dulquer transformed himself into a sadist killer in this movie. This movie proved that Dulquer can handle characters of various traits. Though the movie didn’t got well noticed, the new treatment of the story and the acting of the lead characters were critically acclaimed.

The year 2013 was quite lucky for Dulquer. He got chances to be the part of good projects like ABCD, Anju Sudarikal, Neelakasham Pachakadal Chuvanna Bhoomi etc. ABCD was a comedy film directed by Martin Prakkat. Dulquer proved that he can also handle comedy characters with this movie. The character Johns and Korah enacted by Dulquer and Jacob Gregory respectively, made the audience burst into laughter. The segment ‘Kullante Bharya’ in the Malayalam anthology movie ‘Anju Sundharikal’ was also well noticed.

Samir Thahir’s movie ‘Neelakasham Pachakadal Chuvanna Bhoomi’ was a milestone in the career of Dulquer Salman. It was a road movie released in the year 2013. The movie saw the combination of Dulquer and Sunny Wayne again after their debut movie ‘Second Show’. With his subtle acting, Dulquer’s role ‘Kasi’ in this movie had a free flow into the audiences’ heart. We will feel that ‘Kasi’ was a role only made for him. In 2013, Dulquer had another release ‘Pattam Pole’. But unlike the other releases of 2013, the movie didn’t bring much fame to Dulquer.

With the release of ‘Salala Mobiles’ in the year 2014, Dulquer and Nazriya got the lable of perfect on-screen pairs. Their combination scenes were lovely in the movie. But the movie didn’t do well in the box office. They both again joined hands in the bilingual (Malayalam and Tamil) movie ‘Samsaram Arogyathinu Hanikaram’ directed by Balaji Mohan. The Tamil version of the movie was named ‘Vaaya Moodi Pesavum’. The romantic comedy flick was very well noticed in both Tamil and Malayalam industry.

Dulquer is an actor who always maintains freshness in his acting. Now this freshness we can see in ‘Bangalore Days’ too. That may be the reason, why movie lovers always love to see him on the screen. Dulquer is married to Chennai based architect, Amal Sufiya. His upcoming projects are ‘Vikramadithyan’ directed by Lal Jose and ‘Njan’ directed by Ranjith. Hope the best from him in future.
