He hails from a place called Poochakkal, towards the southern belt of Kerala, close to Cherthala, Alappuzha District. His father is N.G. Kurup. He retired as Senior Accounts Officer, from the Defence Accounts. His mother is Mrs. Sobhana Kurup, a very successful homemaker and his elder sister, Saira, is a Veterinary Doctor. She is married to Sam, who works as the General Manager of a very reputed Company. He married his wife Anupama in 2005, and they have a daughter, Mayookha. Anupama works in the private sector, and is involved in making a career, there.
