KUNCHACKO BOBAN

Kunchacko Boban, more popular as Chackochan, turned the heartthrob of teenagers with his first film, the Fazil-directed Aniyaththipraavu, a trendsetter of sorts. And since then, Chackochan has managed to retain his position in filmdom.
This 'lover boy' of Malayalam Cinema, who has starred in many love-stories on celluloid, including Nakshatrathaaraattu, Niram, Priyam, Chandamama, Prem Pujari, Ingane Oru Nilaapakshi, Mazhavillu, Mayilpeelikaavu, Satyam Sivam Sundaram, Kalyaanaraaman etc, has also rendered on screen some serious characters like that in Satyan Anthicaud's Narendran Makan Jayakaanthan Vaka etc..

He became an instant teenage heartthrob after his first film, the Fazil directed Aniyathi Pravu (1997), was released. He was a favorite among Kerala's college-campus scene after starring in numerous love stories, but once he finished college, he decided to focus on character roles with more scope. He hails from the Maliampurakal family, who are credited with owning the first film studio in Kerala - Udaya. His favourite dish is Karimeen (fried fish).
Kamal's Niram (co-starring Shalini) and Swapnakoodu, both which had Kunchacko in prominent roles, was a rage among teenagers and college students.
Then came a streak of flops like Chandamama, Ingane Oru Nilapakshi, Prem Poojari, Sahayathrikakku Snehapoorvam etc. He had a single success in 1999, Kamal's Niram, which featured him opposite Shalini for the final time. Niram was a rage among the colleges in Kerala and through this movie, he attained the title choclate hero among youngsters. Dosth did fairly well, but in an age when Dileep had the Midas touch, Kunchako's performance was half-charged. Then he played a good comedy role in Sathyan Anthikkadu's Narendran Makan Jayakanthan Vaka.
After Niram, Dosth and Narendran Makan Jayakanthan Vaka, his next hits were Kasthoorimann, and Swapnakkoodu. The movie Ee Snehatheerathu fetched him a Special Jury Award at the 2004 Kerala State Film Awards. In 2005, he got married and started concentrating on real estate business and was quite successful. In 2006 and 2007, he did not act much.
He returned to films in 2008 with Shafi's LollyPop, which also starred Prithviraj, Jayasurya, Bhavana and Roma. In 2009, he again paired up with Jayasurya in Gulumal: The Escape.
After Gulumal: The Escape, he acted in Mummy & Me and in Sakudumbam Shyamala which did fairly well in the theatres. Then he was cast in Lal Jose's Elsamma Enna Aankutty, in which he had an image makeover with the character Palunni and the movie was among the biggest hits of 2010. After that, he appeared in Shaji Azeez's Oridathoru Postman and Saji Surendran's Four Friends. His first release in 2011, Traffic was a superhit. His later releases Seniors, Three Kings, Sevens and Doctor Love also did extremely well at the box office. Seniors was one among the biggest hits of 2011.
His success train in 2011 fetched him the Youth Icon of the Year award at the prestigious Asianet Film Awards. 2012 started off on a success note for Kunchacko Boban as his first release Spanish Masala did fairly well at the box office. His latest release Ordinary is getting an extremely positive response from the theaters and also has gathered a great initial collection.
