Malayalam film actor Ravi Kumar has passed away. He breathed his last at 10:30 AM on Friday at a private hospital in Velachery, Chennai. He had been undergoing treatment for cancer and was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday. Originally from Thrissur, his mortal remains will be taken to his residence in Valsaravakkam, Chennai today. The funeral will take place tomorrow.
Ravi Kumar acted in over a hundred Malayalam films and several Tamil films. In addition, he was also active in television serials.
During the 1970s and 1980s, Ravi Kumar was a prominent actor, playing both lead and villain roles. He gained recognition in Malayalam cinema through the 1976 film Amma, directed by M. Krishnan Nair, starring Madhu in the lead role.
Ravi Kumar was the son of K.M.K. Menon and R. Bharathi, originally from Thrissur. However, he was born in Chennai. He made his silver screen debut with the 1967 film Indulekha. Some of his notable films include Lisa, Avalude Ravukal, Angadi, Sarpam, Theekadal, and Anupallavi. He also played roles in films like Thiriyum Theeravum, Ivar, Hridayam Paadunnu, Thaavalam, and Kallanum Policum. From 1997 onwards, Ravi Kumar was active in the television serial industry as well.
Ravi Kumar made his Tamil cinema debut with Avargal (1977), directed by K. Balachander. He became a notable presence in Tamil cinema through films like Srinivasa Kalyanam (1981) and Dashavatharam (1976). He acted alongside Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, and Sujatha.
Renowned music director Raveendran was the regular dubbing artist for Ravi Kumar. His final film appearances were in Aarattu and CBI 5.
