Veteran Malayalam actor T.P. Madhavan passed away on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at a private hospital in Kollam, Kerala. He was 88. Madhavan, who was the first General Secretary of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), had been in critical condition due to stomach-related ailments and spent his final days on a ventilator. His last rites will take place on Thursday at Santhi Kavadam in Thiruvananthapuram.
For the past eight years, Madhavan had been residing at Gandhi Bhavan in Pathanapuram. He began his acting career at the age of 40, making his debut in 1975, thanks to actor Madhu, who gave him his first break. Over the years, he appeared in more than 600 Malayalam films, initially gaining recognition for his antagonistic roles before transitioning to comedy and character roles.
Despite facing financial hardships later in life, including living in a lodge in Thiruvananthapuram, Madhavan continued to contribute to cinema and television. A serial director eventually took him to Gandhi Bhavan, where he spent his remaining years. Even during this time, he continued acting in television serials.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan expressed his condolences, remembering Madhavan as a talented actor who portrayed a wide range of characters. Some of Madhavan's notable works include Nadodikkattu, Pandippada, Ordinary, Ayal Kadha Ezhuthukayan, Nammal, Narasimham, Oru CBI Diary Kuruppu, Moonam Mura, Achuvettante Veedu, Sandesham, and Aaram Thampuran.
